Up For Review: Nail Stamps (Salon Express)

I love nail stampers. haha Wendy introduced me to them before Christmas and gifted me one of my own for my upcoming birthday. They're really easy to use, and you get effects most people can't freehand (I know I can't anyway). The first ones I tried, I used her Konad polish and did some yellow stars atop of Fly. This time I used my Salon Express set and Nicole by OPI polish. The Salon Express kit came with the stamper, a scraper, 5 stamp plates, and a plate holder. I started out with a base coat of China Glaze Liquid Leather, and used Nicole's Not a Gold Bigger (from the One Less Lonely Girl line... Bieber!) for some fireworkish looking stars. Here's the end result.

Up for Review: Impress Press on Nails

Wendy received a set of Impress Press On Nails in her Influenster Vox Box this month. Not so impressive. Wendy and I both tried these and they didn't even have a nail long enough to cover our thumb nails. And neither of us have super long nails. I just can't see any reason for press on nails really. To me, it's all about the natural nail. I haven't wanted press on nails since I was in 7th grade. And with all the awesome nail art, stamps, and strips going around, I don't get why anyone would use press on nails. But apparently most other people love them. So maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. haha. Here's a photo of the press on nail on top of my real thumb nail. I put one on my ring finger just to see if I thought they would last, I think girls should just stick with polish or acrylics. They didn't fit on my nails well and I can definitely see them falling off during the night.

Current Mani:

I picked up 3 packs of Sally Hansen effects yesterday and the Zebra stripes were one of them. I love them but thought a full hand would be a little much so I just put them on my ring fingers and used Fly on the others. Fly is such a gorgeous color. It's more teal than blue in person.

Really messy nails. Too tired to clean up. haha

Merry Christmas guys!
I hope you all got lots of fun things from Santa. I got lots of polish!
I tried some new stuff with it tonight. Here's the result.
Yeah, I know they're really messy. haha. It's the first time I've tried doing tips. I tried using paper reenforcers (suggested by Wendy) and a rubber band (I saw this somewhere on the internet). Neither really worked for me so I just freehanded a stripe across them. I used gold striping tape that Wendy gave me for Christmas to divide the two colors. I think they look pretty cool. Let me know what you think.
Colors Used:
  • China Glaze- Liquid Leather
  • China Glaze - For Audrey
  • Julep- Fast Drying Top Coat

I got my first Julep Maven box today!

I was kind of skeptical when I ordered it but I used a code that I only had to pay $.01. I was willing to take the risk for that. I was impressed when I opened my box. After the quiz, I was matched with the "it girl" box. I got three polishes and a top coat, a sample of hand lotion, one of age defying hand brightener, a full tube of hand scrub and a little tub of nail glitter. A lot of wonder for one cent. haha. And of course I had to paint my nails right away. I used the hand scrub which is wonderful. It has apricot seeds in it so it feels lovely and makes your hands so soft. After that I tried the hand cream. It was alright. Nothing extraordinary about it.
Next up was the polish. I tried Kim first. It's a wonderful gunmetal color gray, and definitely my favorite, these are very easy to apply and very opaque. I used Helena, the magenta color, on my accent nail. I figured the glitter wouldn't coat very well so I used Helena as a base coat to that. I was wrong. Chloe, the deep purple glitter, covered so well in one coat that I can't even tell Helena is under it. And I love Chloe. Its gorgeous. I finished with the fast drying top coat. It actually does dry super fast. Probably the quickest I've tried.

Overall, very impressed with Julep. I was going to cancel after the first month, but now I think I'll wait to see what the second box brings. (Forgive my poor nail polishing skills. 24 and I still can't not paint my fingers. haha)

10 things under $10 we want for the holidays:

Whether you're celebrating Christmas, Chanukah, or another holiday, we wanna show you the top ten things under 10 bucks that we wish would be gifted into our lives this season.

1. EOS lip balm: It makes your lips feel super smooth and (as Wendy pointed out) it very easy to find in your purse. Nothing else in there is shaped like EOS lip balm. It comes in several different flavors including Sweet Mint and Tangerine. You can buy the singles at most Drug Stores, Ulta, and Target. They're only $3 for one for $7 for a pack of three. Lipsticks and other chapsticks are always a good buy as well. You can get NYC's Hydrating Lipstick in Blossom for only $1.97 at Wal-Mart.

2. Nail Polish: Polish is universal. Girls who don't wear makeup paint their nails. (I know I'm one of those girls). There's a polish for everyone. Your nails can be super colorful with bright greens, blues, yellows, or the classic red like your mom probably wears. Creative nails are in. Buy your daughter, mother, sister, friends, and grandma some great polish. You can get the Sinful Color line at Target or Walgreens for only $2 a bottle! They have a great range of colors. Or if you're looking to spend a little more, try China Glaze or OPI (found at Sally Beauty Supply or Ulta). I'm crazy about their shatters/crackles and glitter polishes. You can also get some great art pens for decent prices. I found some awesome Art Deco (by LA Colors) pens at Dollar Tree!

3. Nail Polish Strips: While we're on the subject of nails. Nail strips! They come in so many different colors and patterns. There are several different brands including Sally Hansen, Butter London, and Incoco. I've only tried the Sally ones. They seem to be the lowest price at around $10. I had the skull and cross bones for Halloween and absolutely loved them. Be sure to put a top coat on and around them to make sure they seal on there well.

4. Tights/Leggings: This is a perfect gift for women of all ages, shapes, and sizes. It's winter, it's cold, and we all want to keep our legs warm under those cute dresses we bought for all the holiday parties. Much like polish and nail strips, they come in so many cute colors and patterns! Personally, I want some Zebra print ones in my stocking but I dont think I could pull them off. haha. Target has a wide variety for $5 each.

5. Dry Shampoo: Its the greatest thing since... uhh... regular shampoo was invented. You can get small sized ones to keep in your purse. So, when you go to the gym or are out in the summer heat, you can still look so fresh and so clean clean afterwards. I've used the Tresemme kind and it works well. My friend Erin suggests the Suave brand. It only costs about $3.

6. Facial Scrub or masks: I personally love L'Oreal's 360 Facial Scrub. Another good option is St. Ives Apricot Scrub, whichever makes your face feel like a baby's bottom (after a good bath with some baby lotion on it).

7. Lotions: What girl doesn't love lotion? Victoria's Secret is having a half-off sale right now. Their holiday scents Snowy Violet and Apple Blossom smell delicious. I also enjoy Bath & Body Works' Into the Wild. It's been my favorite since it came out. Their new scents Charmed Life and Be Enchanted are perfect too.

8. Gift Cards: They're may seem a bit last minute or thoughtless but if you get her one for a place she really enjoys then it makes a difference. Or get them a gift card for a restaurant that you both love so you two (or more) can have a girls night out. If you're shopping for me, I want Visa gift cards. haha

9. Hair treatments: No one wants frizzy gross hair during the holidays. Treat yourself or your friends to Aussie's 3 Minute Miracle Treatment. My friend Courtney loves this product. She also swears by John Frieda's Frizz Ease Finishing Creme.  These two range from $3-6 at your local drug store.

10. Vitamins: Okay this is the more boring choice BUT everyone needs to take some daily vitamins. AND! They make gummy vitamins for adults now! They're even in fun fruit shapes. Although, I will miss my Disney Princess shaped vitamins, these will have to do. Stay healthy for the holidays and throughout the year with One-A-Day Vitacraves!

Xmas Nails =)

Simple nails for Christmas

  • Sinful Colors - HD Nails 926
  • OPI - Spark De Triomphe
  • Top Coat: Color Club 0-60 Speedy
I love this color green but I had to use four coats for it to be this bright and opaque. I put one coat on my ring finger to give the glitter a green tint. I love the Spark De Triomphe though! I had to use three coats of it for it to cover well.

Up For Review: Mythic Oil by L'Oreal

I got a sample of Mythic Oil by L'Oreal Professionnel in the Birch Box I received. It's supposed to nourish all hair types. I always have a ton of fly-aways so I tried it out and it's amazing! haha I just used a little bit and smoothed it into my hair while it was damp and my hair is so soft and smooth. I'm usually skeptical about a lot of hair products but I actually like this one. I was also worried it would make my hair greasy but it definitely did not. I probably won't use it for every day use because it's about $20 for a 4.2 ounce bottle (I'm cheap when it comes to daily maintenance) . But I will use it when I want to look nice. Overall great product.

Up For Review: Befine Gentle Cleanser

I signed up for a Birch Box and received my first box yesterday. I thought I'd try out a few of the products and let you know my thoughts.
First up, I tried Befine Gentle Cleanser. It's made with sugar, rice, and oat extracts. Supposed to be good for dry winter skin.
To begin with, be careful when you open this product. It's the consistency of water. I had to pour out more several times because it ran out of my hands. I've never seen face wash so thin. It suds up decently, about like a bar of soap and rinses off well. It left my skin feeling soft, but still a little dry.
I waited a few hours after I washed my face and my skin isn't oily. (Which is a big deal cause my skin is always oily) I still prefer my L'Oreal Go 360 cleanser. It costs about one-third of the price and I won't waste any thinking it's water. haha.

If you want to try the Befine Gentle Cleanser you can purchase it on their website. It's $15.99 for a 3.4 fl. oz bottle.
